I can relate so well, as Belmont NC, where I have lived for 30 years, has turned into Charlotte the sequel. I dread even driving 2 miles down the road to my favorite local grocer on any day of the week. Even now with the school summer break, traffic is still a nightmare. Vinyl villages, condos, apartments, and townhomes have swallowed us up over the last 8 years. As well as commercial structures…many built along now what was already a congested 2 lane road outside of the city limits. Including a brand new middle school. I’m now surrounded by commercial property..given I live in the city limits, where a wooded area once stood behind my home, I can now look out my kitchen window and see a medical park. Borders, language, and culture…all have changed drastically across these United States. I have no doubt there are others like myself and you who can give a synopsis of how their communities are doing a 360. It is my hope and desire that over the next 5 years, my husband and I can sell and move. To where, we don’t know just yet. But it’s going to be out of this area, possibly to a different State. For now, I’ll just sit back and keep watching trees be torn down and rapid growth continue to destroy what was once a charming bedroom community west of Charlotte.
