IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – A 35-year-old Troutman man died Thursday morning (October 29) following a motorcycle crash on Interstate 77 near Langtree Road (Exit 31) in Iredell County.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Jeffrey Tyler Robertson was traveling southbound in the I-77 toll lane around 6:10 a.m. when his 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle apparently experienced a tire failure, causing him to lose control and overturn.

Robertson was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued through lane attenuators before being struck by a tractor-trailer. Robertson came to rest in the southbound toll lane, where he was struck by a 2020 Chevrolet SUV. He died at the scene.

Investigators initially suspected a possible hit-and-run, but a review of toll lane surveillance footage, tractor-trailer dash camera video and other evidence found no indication that additional vehicles were involved.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Information provided by Master Trooper K. Jake Macchia of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
