Nancy Jo Abernethy Truitt
February 27, 1944 - December 16, 2025
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Nancy Jo Abernethy Truitt, age 81, of Ridge Street in Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her residence.
Mrs. Truitt was born February 27, 1944, in Catawba County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Joe Rhyne and Edna Mildred Sain Abernethy.
Mrs. Truitt worked at Bank of America for over 40 years, serving as Vice President of the Trust Department. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton. In retirement, Nancy served as the church’s Financial Secretary for 10 years. She was an integral part of the church’s Chancel Choir and Lutheringers Handbell Choir where her presence, dedication, and spirit enriched worship. Nancy was also a devoted and proud member of the Carolina Style Chorus for decades. Her greatest joys were gardening and singing.
Mrs. Truitt is survived by her son, Joel Scott Truitt of the home; brother, Donnie Abernethy (Diana) of Lincolnton; niece, Kristine Anthony (Dylan); nephew, Jacob Leatherman; and numerous cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Truitt is preceded in death by her husband, Jabe William Truitt.
A memorial service for Mrs. Truitt will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton, with the Reverend Judy L. Drysdale officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the North Wing of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Inurnment will be private.
