LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy who has spent nearly two decades in law enforcement has been selected to lead an organization representing school resource officers across North Carolina.

Deputy Marcus Miller, who serves as the School Resource Officer at Love Memorial Elementary School, has been named President of the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers.

The North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers, known as NCASRO, currently lists Miller as president and identifies him as a member of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The organization provides training, education and professional support for school resource officers throughout North Carolina.

In a post published by Lincoln County, NC on its Facebook page, Miller said the new position gives him an opportunity to support school resource officers beyond Lincoln County.

“This role means a great deal to me. It’s a passion of mine to support SROs across North Carolina rather than just locally and to help them make a positive impact in their communities. Ultimately, I want to help them make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children and schools,” Miller said in the county’s post.

Miller has worked in law enforcement for almost 20 years. According to the Lincoln County post, Miller said being an effective school resource officer is a calling and a blessing.

School resource officers have responsibilities that extend beyond enforcing the law on school property. NCASRO works to provide training and support for officers serving students and schools across North Carolina.

Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam also commented on Miller’s appointment in the county’s Facebook announcement.

“We are very proud of Deputy Miller. I know he will represent Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office well and it goes to show the outstanding class of SROs we have in this community,” Beam said.

As president of NCASRO, Miller will work alongside law enforcement officers from agencies throughout North Carolina while helping lead an organization focused on training, professional development and support for school resource officers.

His appointment also places a Lincoln County law enforcement officer in a statewide leadership position focused on school safety and relationships between officers, students and their communities.
