Fatal Accident In Ashe County
John Charles Shoemake of Warrensville is dead
WARRENSVILLE––A fatal vehicular accident occurred Friday in Ashe County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, NCSHP personnel responded around 3:10 p.m. to investigate the incident in Ashe County on Clint Gilley Road at Heavenly Mountain View.
“A 1965 Chevrolet truck, loaded with gravel, backing down Heavenly Mountain View, drove off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, overturned and came to rest on its top on Clint Gilley Road,” Casey states in a Saturday release.
He adds that the driver of the Chevrolet, John Charles Shoemake of Warrensville, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Shoemake was not restrained by a seatbelt.
“The preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision,” Casey continues. “During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.”
