LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Additional child sexual assault charges have been filed against a Lincoln County man who was first arrested in February 2024.

Carl David Holt, 66, of Magnet Lane, Stanley, NC was arrested on February 5, 2024, on the charges.  The investigation began in October of 2023 after the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible child abuse.  The child abuse investigation uncovered allegations of sexual assault.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective K. Harrington obtained a search warrant and seized a cell phone belonging to Holt during the investigation.  During a forensic download of the device, Holt was found to be in possession of images depicting child sexual abuse.  Holt was charged with two counts each of statutory sexual offense and second-degree exploitation of a child.  He was also charged with one count of third-degree exploitation of a child.

In February 2024, Holt was charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory sexual offense were served.  The victims in the case were known to Holt and were juveniles at the time of the incidents.

Holt was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and following a first court appearance he is being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond.
