The typical victim seen at the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center is an 8-year-old girl who has been subjected to sexual abuse by someone she knows and trusts. In response to this horrible reality, the agency reaches out to the corporate and business community for support in providing these vulnerable children with safety and a hopeful path forward.

In March, they held the annual The Price is Right for Fighting Child Abuse at the James Warren Citizens Center.  Thanks to the multiple sponsors including First Federal Savings Bank, the event sponsor, other corporate and business sponsors, and those who provided prizes for the event, this year The Price is Right for Fighting Child Abuse raised a little over $60,000--up from $51,412 raised by the event in 2023.

This Thursday (April 11th), the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse will celebrate its 30th birthday with an Appreciation Luncheon at First United Methodist Church, recognizing some of the volunteers who have worked to create a safe and nurturing environment for children suffering from abuse.  

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month.  Perhaps you have seen the pinwheels on the corner at East Main Street and the Courtsquare in Lincolnton.

This Wednesday (April 10th), the Children's Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County will hold its Pinwheels for Prevention event at noon at Zahra Baker Park in Hickory.  The playground and park were built in memory of a 10-year-old girl who was killed by her mother in 2010.

Similar events are being held at other locations across the state and nation to emphasize the need for continued efforts by local groups to work toward preventing child abuse in its various forms and help for those children who have been abused.
