HOW TO SURVIVE BEING IN A SHAKESPEARE PLAY, March 31 and April 1: The Cherryville Little Theatre is co-producing How to Survive Being in a Shakespeare Play with the students of the Lincoln Charter Middle School Drama Club. Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, at 6 p.m. both evenings. The performances are free and open to the public. The theatre is located at 301 W. Academy St., Cherryville, NC 28021.

Cedar Grove Lutheran Living Passion Drive-Thru: Cedar Grove Lutheran Church is hosting its annual LIVING PASSION event on Palm Sunday, April 2 from 3-5 p.m. at 261 Cedar Grove Church Road, Vale, NC. This is a free, drive-through event offering a village of scenes depicting the Passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. For more information call 704-276-2430.

LVLC Chili Cook-Off, Saturday, April 1: The Long View Lions Clubs 11th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be held on Friday, April 1, 2023 at the Long View Recreation Center, 3107 2nd Avenue, NW in Hickory (across the street from the Hickory Airport Runway), from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for the public. Live entertainment and door prizes. Admission is $10 for age 12 thru adults, $5 for 11 years and under, free for age 3 and under. Soft drinks, cornbread, hot dogs, dessert and all-you-can-eat chili will be served. Proceeds will go back into the local community.

7th Inning Stretch 5K, April 29, 2023 (Register By April 16, 2023): The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Future Energy, 130 West Graham Street Shelby, NC US 28150. The 5K Race is one of the pre American Legion World Series events. Each year proceeds from race to a non-profit. This year proceeds will go to Road to Hope Shelby. The Road to Hope Bike Ride, a 529-mile annual ride from Shelby to Washington, DC, each May. The ride ends at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, which lists the names of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty from as far back as 1791. To allow for better weather for our runners we have moved it to the last Saturday in April (April 29, 2023). The registration fee for runners and phantom runners is $25 veterans and law enforcement officers who are runners will pay $15. Phantom runners will receive race T-shirt(s). The ALWS is celebrating its 12th anniversary in Shelby-Cleveland County this year. The ALWS committee is planning various emphases and events to commemorate the milestone, among them the fundraising effort for the Road to Hope Shelby. The Road to Hope Bike Ride is a project of Law Enforcement United, which supports programs that include Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), Kids Camp, Young Adult Camp, Outward Bound, college scholarships, retreats, training and counseling, equipment grants and The Spirit of Blue Foundation.
