LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry is making plans now for its annual Christmas operations.
That’s the word Friday from executive director Mitzi Williams.
“Can you believe it?” Williams rhetorically asked. “It’s almost time for us to start thinking about Christmas angels.”
She added that more would be explained about the yearly Christmas angel campaign (hint: think toys for needy children; a worthy cause!) and “adopting” a Christmas food when the ministry mails out its flyer on these topics, Oct. 11.
“For over a year,” said Williams, “the number of families that come to the ministry for help has stayed around 330 families and 690 individuals a month. Inflation has caused that to change. In the month of September, we helped 567 families and 1,651 individuals with food. We spent $6,000 helping 41 families with their utilities, eight families with rent and 10 families with medicines.
“Our clients range from seniors and disabled people on fixed incomes to young families trying to navigate the rising cost of living on a fixed salary,” she continued. “Some of our clients are homeless. They are hungry for food and someone to show they care. With the number of families we are serving going up and our supply of food being at an all-time low, we need your help!”
The following is a list of food items needed: peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned beans, canned green beans, corn, crackers, soup, rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, cereal/grits and canned meat.
“Please,” Williams added, “keep the clients, the volunteers and the staff in your prayers.”
