Betty Jean Greenard
November 11, 1933 - November 26, 2022

NEWTON, N.C. - Betty Jean Greenard, 89, of Newton, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at her residence.

She was born November 11, 1933 in Catawba County to the late William Grover Greenard and Mamie Gregory Greenard. Betty was of the Baptist faith and looked forward to attending church and learning about Heaven. She worked for 30 years at Southern Furniture Company and enjoyed taking nature walks, sightseeing, making wine, and she never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers; three sisters; and a special friend Phyllis Hull.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Betty “Suge” Greenard of Claremont, Tara Greenard Byrd of Hickory; grandchildren Lonorris “LJ” Greenard, John Greenard, Sierra Nicole Greenard Shepherd, Pierre F. McClain, and Chancelor Williamson; great-grandchildren James John Williams, Anisha Miles, and Baby Shepherd, who Betty did not yet get to meet; great-great-grandchild Justice James Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A homegoing service to celebrate Betty’s life was held on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Brian Odham officiated. Burial followed at Brooks Cemetery in Catawba. The family received friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
