WACO, N.C. - Hubert Thompson, age 81 of Waco, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Atrium Health - Cleveland.

He was born November 19, 1941 to the late James Eugene and Bonnie Edna Craig Thompson. Hubert was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a skilled mechanic and spent many years building engines for dirt track racing at various tracks in the area. He retired as a dock worker from Carolina Freight Carriers. One of his favorite hobbies was pier fishing. He enjoyed fishing trips with his wife to Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, and Lake Wylie.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judy Diane Settlemyer Thompson; brothers, Walter Rayburn Thompson, and James Bufford Thompson.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Jim Baxter and Sharon and Chris White; grandchildren, Christian White, and Jimmy Baxter (Brittany); great-grandchildren, Jordan and Caleb Baxter; and sister, Nancy Stallings (Larry); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Ricky Sigmon officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2022 prior to the service at the funeral home.
