KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Rev. Oscar R. Hullender, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Rev. Hullender was born on July 21, 1940 in Cleveland County, a son of the late Rev. James W. Hullender and Lizzie Grigg Hullender. He was retired from Cape Fear Ford in Wilmington. Rev. Hullender was ordained as a minister in 1973 and graduated Fruitland Baptist Bible College in 1978. He pastored several churches over the years including, New Camp Creek Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, Howards Creek Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Community Baptist Church and Battle Park Baptist Church in Carolina Beach, Harmony Baptist Church in Gastonia, New Hope Baptist Church in Leland and Palmyra Baptist Church in Old Dock.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherri Denise Hullender Beasley and Kathy Elaine Hullender Driggers; two brothers and eight sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Daves Hullender; a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Ann Hullender; a son Steven Hullender and wife Vanessa all of Kings Mountain; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Sims officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Hullender Family Cemetery in Kings Mountain with Military Honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.
