HICKORY, N.C. - Peggie Philyaw Cook, 81, of Hickory passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at her residence.
She was born April 23, 1941 in Caldwell County to the late Torrence “T I” and Cora Lee Shoe Philyaw. Peggie was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Hickory and was a volunteer for LINC Thrift and Gifts and a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed pulling weeds, grooming properties, going on beach trips, and serving on mission trips. Peggie was an avid reader, and enjoyed watching Heartland, playing basketball and bowling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack E. Cook; brother, Lucky Philyaw; sister, Patricia Groner; son-in-law, Andrew Thompson; fur babies, Lady, KT, Pooch, Sarg, Josh; and grand fur baby, Spike.
The family wishes to thank her church family, her healthcare team (Avail Home Care), Carolina Caring staff, Michael Cook and the many friends who supported them on this emotional journey.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Cindy Thompson of Hickory, Rhonda Lunsford and husband Tracey of Granite Falls; brother Venoy Philyaw and wife Rosemary of Lenoir; sister Sadie Waller of Lenoir; grandchildren Kebony Thompson (Jessica), Taylor Lunsford, Hunter Lunsford, and Amber Anderson (Steve); great-grandchildren Aydin,Myranda, Phoebe, Grayson and McKenna; great-great-grandchildren Sid the Kid and Charlotte.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggie’s life will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ (formerly Church of the Master) in Hickory. Rev. Sandi Hood and Chaplain Kim Dowell will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at Peace United Church of Christ. The healthcare team of Avail Home Care will serve as honorary pallbearers.
