CONOVER, N.C. - Walter Lee Poovey Jr., 88, of Conover passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1933 in Catawba County to the late Walter Poovey Sr. and Elsie Hicks Poovey. Walter attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Conover and retired from Lexington Furniture in Hildebran after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Isenhour Poovey; brothers, Johnny Poovey and Tommy Poovey; and daughter-in-law, Trudy McCaslin Poovey.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons Gary P. Poovey of Newton, ryan Timothy Poovey of Conover; daughter Candi M. Poovey of Conover; sister-in-law Cindy Poovey of Newton; grandchildren Bryan J. Poovey of Newton, Amber Hicks and husband Alex of Conover; great-grandchildren Easton Poovey of Newton, Madilyn Culpepper of Newton, Swayde Hicks of Conover, and Trinity Hicks of Conover.

A service to celebrate Walter’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Conover. Rev. Brian Correll will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
