MLK Day 2023
Monday (Jan. 16th) was MLK Day, and Lincolnton joined most of the rest of the nation in observing the day set aside to remember and honor the slain civil rights leader.  A few area towns had parades and other events on Saturday including Newton.  In Kings Mountain, a program called "Meet Dr. King" was performed at the Joy Theatre Monday afternoon.

COVID Update
Less than 10% of North Carolinians have had the latest COVID booster vaccination, but 87% have had at least one dose of the original vaccines.  The number of cases of a new variant has increased significantly in recent weeks--but thanks to the vaccines and because some had already had a case of COVID-19 and developed some natural immunity, the number of hospitalizations and deaths hasn't increased that much.
