Reporter

This reporter must confess that when the South Fork 2A Conference All-Conference selections and Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year choices were announced, I was shocked that Canon Bridges from West Lincoln High School wasn't named as one of those player of the year award winners.

It isn't that the players who were selected by the conference coaches didn't deserve recognition; they had outstanding seasons--but Bridges did enough that he could easily have been named both the Offensive and Defensive Player of  the Year.  I must confess, I didn't see the games; I listened to them on the radio or online--but the statistics tell the story.

Bridges ran for 2,294 yards and 32 touchdowns.  He ran for over a hundred yards in 10 of the team's 14 games, and averaged 164 yards per game.  In addition to the touchdowns, he ran for seven  two-point EP conversions, giving him a total of 206 points scored for the season.

On defense, he had 131 solo tackles and was in on another 35; he sacked opposing quarterbacks nine times by himself plus one more with a teammate.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 17th) Ken Link and Tim Johnson from WLON Radio presented Bridges with the radio station's South Fork Conference Player of the Year award.  It was presented by the radio station and was not an official conference award--but I'm pleased to see that at last, Canon Bridges got some of the recognition he most certainly deserved.
