Friday Night (Dec. 30th) Scores

It was their third closest game of the season, but
thanks to a third period surge, the East Lincoln girls won their twelfth game of the season without a loss as they downed Mallard Creek 54-44 for the championship of the East Lincoln Winter Jam Friday night.

Madison Self led all scorers with 20 points. She had a double-double adding 12 rebounds. She also had four steals, two assists and took a charge. Ginny Overbay scored 11 points; Hailey McFadden 6; Abbie Hege and Kiki Anderson 5 apiece; Taniyah Thomas 4; and Emma Montanari 3.

Leading 7-5 after a slow first period and 17-15 at the half, East scored 22 points in the third for a 13-point lead and ended up winning by 10.

The East Lincoln boys went cold in the second period of their game with East Mecklenburg and ended up losing 80-60. After leading 15-14 at the end of the first period, they were outscored 23-8 in the second and trailed 37-23 at halftime.  The Eagles also outscored the Mustangs in the third and fourth quarters, but that second quarter performance was the main reason that East lost for only the second time this season. East Meck is now 12-1 while the Mustangs are now 10-2.

Jackson Fannon was the leading scorer for East Lincoln with 17 points; Keandre Walker had 15; and Mason Simmons scored 12.  East Meck had four players in double figures.  Others scoring for East Lincoln were Houston Hartsell and Nathan Kuthan with four each, Davis Hill with 3, and Palmer Crichton and Carson Engstrand with 2 apiece.

Jordan Nevill scored 25 for East Meck in the champioship game and was named the tournament's MVP.  Others on the boys all-tournament team were Jonah Lawrence and Braylen Bowman of East Meck; Jackson Fannon and Houston Hartsell of East Lincoln; Isaiah Martino of Lake Norman Charter; Gavin Fields of Ashbrook; Justin Ross of Hunter Huss; Maddox Wastson of SouthLake Christian; Nick Arnold of Lake Norman; and Connell Lowery of Community School of Davidson.

Ginny Overbay of East Lincoln was named the girls MVP.  Others on the all-tournament team were Madison Self and Hailey McFadden of East Lincoln;  Olivia Stewart of Community School of Davidson; Maddie Hiteshue of Pine Lake Prep; Jade Clowney of West Cabarrus; Jade Taylor of Lake Norman Charter; Ava Stallings of East Mecklenburg; Laylah Toscano & Myasia Young of Mallard Creek; and Raven Brooks of Jay M. Robinson.

The East Lincoln teams return to Western Foothills Conference play on Tuesday (Jan. 3rd) hosting West Iredell.
