Lincolnton lost a pair of games at Newton-Conover Thursday evening, but the Lincolnton boys came close. The Red Devils outscored the Wolves 9-5 in the overtime period to break a 45-all tie at the end of regulation. LHS had come from a 33-29 deficit at the end of the third period, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game.
Newton-Conover won the girls game 56-22.
West Lincoln's girls beat Maiden 49-47 behind Chloe Norman's 27 points. Zoey Owenby had 11 for West; Carolina Robinson scored 6, Anna Bieberich 3 and Deedee Wallace 2. For Maiden, Kennedie Noble had 18, Khiara Culliver 9, Neeley Campbell and Raegan Rembert 7 apiece, Kynsea Pugh and Aleah Ikard 2 each. With the win, the West girls are now 7-2, 2-0 in the Catawba Valley Conference.
The Maiden boys continued unbeaten, downing the Rebels 62-47 for their ninth win without a loss. They are 2-0 in the conference.
Chris Culliver scored 23 points for the Blue Devils; Jalen Robinson and Raheim Misher each had 9; Jacob Sigmon and Wesley Thompson each had 6; and
Ayden Walker and Landon Teague each scored 3.
For the Rebels, Jordan Truesdale scored 19 points; Zander Harrison had 12, Bryce Beddingfield 10, Lucas Howell, Mikalister Andewrson and Evan Hartsoe 2 each.
Among Christmas tournaments next week, West Lincoln will host the People's Bank Holiday Clash starting Tuesday (Dec. 27th). Lincolnton's boys & girls teams will also play in the tournament at West Lincoln. East Lincoln will host the East Lincoln Winter Jam tournament starting Wednesday (Dec. 28th);
