Behind a career-best performance from Javen Chandler, the Catawba Valley Community College men’s basketball team earned its third-straight win on Tuesday (Dec. 13th), defeating Wake Tech 81-68 at the Tarlton Complex. 37 points by Chandler is the second most in a single game in Red Hawk men’s basketball history.
CVCC (7-3, 4-1) fell behind early and trailed 30-27 at halftime. The Eagles closed to within two points late, but the Red Hawks outscored Wake Tech 20-9 in the final 4:34 to pull away for the Region 10 victory. Braden Graham had 16 points for Catawba Valley, while Shad Thomas scored nine points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds.
The CVCC men’s basketball team hosts its Catawba Valley Invitational at the Tarlton Complex this weekend. The Red Hawks face Central Carolina at 6 PM Friday and play Hosanna College at 3 PM Saturday. Admission to the tournament is $5 per day.
Three local runners have been named by NC Mile Split as Second Team All-State selections for 2022. Stephen Fernetti of North Lincoln was named to the boys second team and Katherine Hopkins of Lincolnton and North Lincoln's Macy Parks were named to the girls second team.
