For the third time this season, the East Lincoln soccer team downed St. Stephens 3 - 1 Monday (Nov. 7th) propelling the 18-4-3 Mustangs into round four of the NCHSAA 3A Soccer playoffs this Thursday at Asheboro.
The Blue Comets were the #1 West region seed for the playoffs; East, the #4. The winner of the Thursday game will play the winner of a fourth round match between Hickory and Hibriten for the West region championship and a spot in the state title game. Asheboro (22-1-2) beat West Iredell 3 - 0 Monday. Hickory (19-2-3) downed Gastonia Forestview 4 - 0. Hibriten beat Concord 3 - 1. Their Thursday match will be played at the Caldwell County school; the Panthers were seeded #3; Hickory, #10.
In the 2A playoffs, Lincoln Charter advanced to the fourth round with a 4 - 1 win over East Davidson on Monday. The Eagles, now 12-9-3, and seeded #17, will play at #5 seed Newton-Conover on Thursday. The Red Devils, who were undefeated in Catawba Valley Conference play, beat Hendersonville 3 - 1 Monday.
