SOCCER

Last year, the Lincolnton boys soccer team only lost once--to eventual state 2A champion Shelby; but most of the stars of that team graduated. This season has been rough for the Wolves. They finally got victory #7 of the season Wednesday (Oct. 19th) winning at East Burke 3-0. The Wolves will play at Bunker Hill Thursday.

Lincoln Charter lost its game Wednesday at Pine Lake Prep 2-0. The Eagles finish with a 9-9-3 overall record, 4-7-1 in the Catawba Shores Conference, 5th place in the league.

East Lincoln beat St. Stephens 5-0 Wednesday. Aidan Morrison had two goals, giving him 14 for the season. Jackson Thrap, Zachary Hoyt and
Brandon Lefevers had the other goals. It was the fourth consecutive shutout for the Mustangs and their ninth of the season. East is now 14-4-3 overall, 11-1-1 in the Western Foothills Conference, tied with Hickory for first place in the league (the Red Tornadoes also won Wednesday, beating West Iredell 4-0). East has one regular season game left: at North Iredell on Monday (10/24).

North Lincoln beat Fred T. Foard Wednesday, 2-0. The Knights are now 8-8-2 overall, 4-6-1 in the conference. Foard is 8-9-3, 4-7-2. North has games at West Iredell on Monday and at Statesville on Tuesday; then finishes at home against North Iredell next Wednesday. Foard hosts Hickory on Monday and North Gaston on Tuesday.

We did not receive any report on the Maiden team's game with Bunker Hill on Wednesday. The Blue Devils have one game left: at Lincolnton on Monday. West Lincoln lost at West Caldwell 9-0 Wednesday. The Rebels host East Burke Monday and finish at home against Lincolnton next Wednesday.

Cherryville beat East Gaston 2-1 Wednesday. The Ironmen will visit Burns Monday and play at home against Bessemer City next Wednesday.

TENNIS

West Lincoln, Lincoln Charter, Maiden, North Lincoln and East Lincoln made the NCHSAA girls tennis team championships. North, with a 14-1 record (their only loss a non-conference match in early September) was seeded #5 in the West Region. They'll play #12 seed Hickory on Friday. The Red Tornadoes, who are hosting the West Region playoffs, got a wild card bid. North Lincoln won all its conference matches for the second year in a row. The Knights' Emma Carver, who finished second in last year's 3A state singles championship and teammate Caitlin Simcox advanced to the regional tournament in singles play this season; Natalie Gore and Lulu King did likewise in doubles.

East Lincoln, with a 12-2 record, was seeded #11. They'll play #6 seed Winston-Salem Atkins at Hickory on Friday. East got the second automatic bid for the Western Foothills Conference when they beat Hickory in their final regular season match. One of their two losses was to North Lincoln. One of their wins was over West Lincoln. It's the first playoff appearance for East since 2018.

In the 2A West Region playoffs, West Lincoln, seeded #7, will host #10 seed Mt. Pleasant. The 15-2 Rebels had their last postseason win in 2015. GOLF

West Lincoln's Reese Coltrane tied for 6th place at 1A/2A
Regional West on Tuesday (Oct. 18th) at Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton. Her 87 score for the 18 holes qualified her for the 1A/2A NCHSAA State Girls 1A/2A Golf Tournament to be played on the Red Course at Foxfire Golf Club near Pinehurst on Monday and Tuesday (10/24 & 10/25). This will be her 4th and final state appearance. Caroline Johnson of Pine Lake Prep shot a 77 to win the Tuesday outing. Celeste Little and Sondra Uon of Newton-Conover tied for fourth with 86's. West didn't make the team playoffs this year. Newton-Conover, Pine Lake Prep, and Thomas Jefferson will vie for the 1A/2A team title.

East Lincoln made the 3A West playoffs. They'll compete with South Point and Hibriten for the state 3A team championship. Kyla Callahan (92), Maddie Reynolds (96) and Aspen Greene (101) didn't qualify for the individual playoffs. Hickory's Lillian Bowman, with an 80, was best in the qualifying round.
