SOCCER
East Lincoln improved to 13-4-3 overall, 10-1-1 in the Western Foothills Conference with a 4-0 win at Fred T. Foard Monday. The Tigers managed a scoreless tie at the half, but the Mustangs scored four times in the second half. Blake Swanson had three of those goals; the other was by freshman Carter King. Landon Graden and Mason Rodgers each had an assist. Swanson now has 17 goals for the season. East is tied with Hickory for tops in the conference. In head-to-head meetings, they tied the Red Tornadoes in their first meeting; East won the second. The Mustangs play at St. Stephens Wednesday; then finish the regular season with a trip to North Iredell next Monday.
North Lincoln will play at St. Stephens Tuesday (10/18), then at home against Foard Wednesday (10/19) before traveling to West Iredell on Monday (10/24).
The regulation game ended in a 2-2 tie after both teams scored a goal in each half; then LHS got its sixth victory of the season on penalty kicks. The 4-2 OT win gives LHS a record of 6-11-1 (5-5 in the Catawba Valley Conference). Lincolnton play at East Burke Wednesday, then at Bunker Hill on Thursday. The Wolves will host Maiden next Monday.
Lincoln Charter and Community School of Davidson went two OTs but still ended up in a tie 4-4. The Eagles play at Pine Lake Prep Wednesday.
West Lincoln lost to Newton-Conover 9-0. West will play at West Caldwell Wednesday, then host East Burke next Monday (10/24). They'll host Lincolnton next Wednesday (10/26).
Bandys scored four first half goals and downed Maiden 5-1. The Blue Devils will host Bunker Hill Wednesday before finishing the regular season with that game at Lincolnton on Monday (10/24). Bandys has three regular season games left: at home against Newton-Conover Wednesday and West Caldwell on Monday, then at Bunker Hill next Wednesday.
At this point, Newton-Conover is tops in the Catawba Valley Conference with an 11-0 league mark. The Trojans are #1 at 10-1.
Cherryville lost to Shelby 6-1 on Monday. The Ironmen visit East Gaston Wednesday, Burns on Monday (10/24), then host Bessemer City next Wednesday (10/26).

VOLLEYBALL
In the Western Foothills Conference Volleyball Tournament, East Lincoln beat Hickory 3-0. The Mustangs will now play at Foard in the semifinals; the Tigers downed North Lincoln 3-0. In other Monday action, North Iredell won its 25th without a loss, 3-0 over Statesville. The Raiders will now face West Iredell, 3-2 winners over St. Stephens on Tuesday. The winners of the East vs Foard and North Iredell vs West Iredell matches will play for the tournament championship Wednesday.
In the Catawba Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament, Lincolnton beat Bunker Hill 3-1 Monday; they'll now play Bandys Tuesday. The Trojans downed West Caldwell 3-0. Maiden beat Newton-Conover 3-1; they'll now play East Burke, 3-0 winners over West Lincoln on Monday, in the semi-finals on Tuesday. The semi=finals and championship match will both be played at West Lincoln High School.
UPDATE: In the CVAC, #1 seed Bandys defeated :Lincolnton 25-16 ,25-15 25 & 17 on Tuesday. #2 seed Maiden defeated East Burke in Straight as well, 25-11, 27-25, & 25-10. The Tournament Championship will be played at 7 pm Wednesday (Oct. 19th) at West Lincoln.
