High School Girls Golf

Wayne Howard
Reporter

The Western Foothills Conference held its Conference Tournament for girls golf at Cowans Ford Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 11th). East Lincoln finished first with a 145 score. St. Stephens was second at 156, Hickory third with a 157. North Lincoln finished in a tie for sixth place with a 198. Medalist for the event was Lillian Bowman of Hickory with a 43. For the season, East Lincoln had five first place finishes.

Bowman was the medalist in all but one of the matches her team played this season; in that one, she finished second to teammate Claire Graham. East relied on combined team effort to hold down their total strokes and, as a result, finished first more than Hickory.

Good as the West Lincoln girls were, Newton-Conover was best in girls golf in the Catawba Valley Conference. Three of their golfers: Sondra Ion, Celeste Little and Hailey Hicks earned medalist honors in various events.
