The Catawba County Sheriff's Office has charged a 34-year-old Madison County, NC, woman with murder in the death of a four-year-old child. Chelsea Lee Crompton was apprehended at the residence of a relative in Madison County on Friday (Nov. 25th) and charged in the death of Hazel Lidey.

First responders were called to a residence on Hill Haven Drive, south of Propst Crossroads in the Plateau region of Catawba County shortly after 2 PM last Thursday (Nov. 17th). They found the little girl unresponsive at that location. She was taken to the hospital but passed away early Sunday morning (Nov. 20th). No details of how she was injured were released, but Sheriff Don Brown did say, "Our community is shocked by the senseless violence that caused Hazel's death."

Crompton was a girlfriend of the child's father. She is scheduled for a first appearance in district court on Monday (Nov. 28th).
