When it made landfall, it was a hurricane; now Tropical Storm Nicole crossed Florida and is heading north. Because it is a widespread storm with winds and rain extending over a wide area, it will create some wind and a lot of rain for our area, and that may mean that some plans will have to be changed. The Lincolnton Veterans Day Parade has been canceled and the ceremony honoring the Veteran of the Year will now be held at 11 AM Friday at the American Legion building on N. Aspen St.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for our area from 7 PM Thursday until 7 PM Friday. A 70% chance of rain during the day Thursday goes up to near 100% Thursday night with over an inch or rain expected.
More rain, sometimes heavy, is expected Friday; and while the rain will likely diminish as the night progresses, some showers will still be happening through Friday evening.
By Saturday, the rain will be gone and it will be a mostly sunny day. There may still be some wind but not that much, and by Saturday night, it will be clear and cold with an overnight low of 38° after reaching near 70° during the day.
Some high school football playoff games that were orignally scheduled for Friday were rescheduled for Thursday.
