LINCOLNTON, N.C. - During Week 7 the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen’s Academy participants learned about the Communications Center (911 Center), DWI enforcement, and traffic citations. The participants met at the Lincoln County Communications Center for this training, where they were able to take a tour of the center, learn about dispatch procedures, and learn about the process of fielding incoming emergency calls.
Deputy M. Schaeffer spoke about Driving While Impaired (DWI) enforcement, specifically the use of Field Sobriety Testing and Alco-Sensors by law enforcement. Participants were given instructions on how to administer certain field sobriety tests. Deputy Schaeffer also allowed participants to attempt field sobriety tests for themselves, while using alcohol impairment goggles (Drunk Goggles)
Detective D. Houser discussed law enforcement considerations during traffic stops and gave an overview of the North Carolina uniform citations. Participants will use the information learned this week during next week’s lesson on courtroom testimony and judicial proceedings.
As always, anyone who has information on a crime is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office (704-732-9050) or the Lincoln County Communications Center (704-735-8202) or the Lincolnton/Lincoln County CrimeStoppers at (704-736-8909). Download the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office smart phone app for notifications about the sheriff’s office, for inmate and arrest information, to apply for a concealed carry permit, and more.
