LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill announced yesterday (October 25, 2022) charges against a former nurse at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in connection with deaths that occurred at the hospital.
O’Neill said Johnathan Howard Hayes, 47, of Winston-Salem has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Vickie Lynne Lingerfelt, 62, of Lincoln County and Gwen Crawford, age 61. Both women were given lethal doses of insulin that caused their deaths. Lingerfelt was administered a lethal dose of insulin on January 22, 2022 and died on January 27, 2022.
Hayes was terminated in March of 2022 and arrested Tuesday on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, Johnathan Hayes had his first appearance in the Forsyth County District Court. He is being held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center with No Bond Allowed. His next court date was set for November 10, 2022.
