Update from Sen. Alexander
Senator Alexander hosted NCDDA representatives recently.
In our area, downtown development associations from Stanley, Maiden, Conover, and Kings Mountain are members of the NC Downtown Development Association. Belmont, Newton, Hickory and Shelby are members of both the NCDDA and the NC Main Street Program. Cherryville and Bessemer City are members of the Main Street Program.  Lincolnton, once a Main Street Program city, dropped the Main Street Program several years ago.

NC State Senator Ted Alexander shared the following update on the NC Legislature with us.  Senator Alexander said he sponsored  Senate Bill 414 , Compact for a Balanced Budget, which requires North Carolina to eliminate epermanently budget deficits. "It is vital, he said, "that North Carolina avoids budget deficits in order for our economy to flourish."

Representatives of the  North Carolina Downtown Development Association visited the Senator's Raleigh office. "We had the opportunity to discuss the prioritization of developing our local downtown areas. The group also brought sponsored interns to learn about our legislative process. It was a pleasure to meet and talk about topics relevant to our district with everyone. I believe it is vital to educate our youth on the very important topic of economic development in the downtown areas."

Alexander joined 41 other NC State Senators in a statement in support of the sovereinty of Taiwan.  "I was proud to host a delegation from Taiwan. "Taiwan has been experiencing continuous threats from the authoritarian neighbor of China, which has encroached on Taiwan's security by flying in Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ), disseminating disinformation, and launching cyberattacks, repeatedly excluding Taiwan from the international system. It is imperative to continue supporting the relationship between Taiwan and the United States, as both countries deeply cherish the common values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law." China has long insisted that Taiwan, off the coast of China, is actually a part of China.  The former Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-Shek took refuge on Taiwan and established a new government there following the Communist takeover of mainland China following World War II.
