What Are The Old To Do
Written December 20, 2022

Judge Rembert
Guest Columnist

She is 80...
81 in February...
She has a computer...
She has an I-Phone...
Had them for years...
She is not trained...
She needs help...
Help from time to time...

Many of her friends do not...
Do not have either...
They are misplaced...
Misplaced in 2022...
2023 will add to their problems...
How are they to get help...
Help with normal issues...

So many places only have web-sites now...
Businesses are moving to no land lines...
No office phones...
You call the number and you get...
Get a message with the web-site instructions...

You have a problem...
You call a number...
You get a recording...
Recording gives you a new number...
New number is a human who...
Who does not speak English well...
Does not understand English well...
Keep in mind...
The company wants...
Wants your money...
Wants your business...
Wants you to buy a computer...

This happened to her friend...
A lady with no computer or I-Phone...
She needed to renew her driver’s license...
She called her local DMV office...
Answering machine answered...
Local office does not answer the phone...
Answering machine gave...
Gave her another number...
OK called that number...
New answering machine gave...
Gave her the web-site instructions...

Now without a computer what...
What good are these instructions...
What has she learned...
Learned about getting her license renewed...

Now what are older people to do...
She and millions more are thrown out...
Out of the family of useful people...
Day by day they are shown...
Shown how unimportant they are...
How unnecessary they are...
How useless they are to the business world...
But they want their money...

If you are young you think...
Think you are safe...
You think you are keeping up...
Wrong my friend...
Tech is moving faster than you...
It will pass you someday...
You will be left behind...

Help your grandparents...
Help your parents...
Feel their frustrations...

YOU WILL BE THERE SOMEDAY...
PRAY THAT SOMEONE WILL...
WILL HELP YOU...

More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and she now makes her home in Aiken, S.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing [email protected]
