Revels was elected to fill the unexpired term of Jefferson Davis as U.S. Senator for Mississippi (Revels once lived in Lincolnton, N.C.);  and it was Inauguration Day for Franklin D. Roosevelt (1945), John F. Kennedy (1961), Richard Nixon (1969), Ronald Reagan (1981), Bill Clinton (1993) and in 2009 Barack Obama.
