VALE, N.C. - Benjamin Matha Gantt, age 78, of Fairview School Road in Vale, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville with Rev. Keith Huss officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Gantt was born December 31, 1944, in Lincoln County, to the late Bronner G. Gantt and Millie Beam Gantt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Hines Gantt; brother, B.F. Gantt; and sisters, Linda Adams, Hilda Gilbert, and Lahree Powell. He worked in well drilling and was a truck driver.
He is survived by a son, Scott Matha Gantt (Sue) of Lincolnton; daughter, Deborah Gantt Taylor (Ricky) of Gastonia; two sisters, Shirley Hull and Virginia Foster, both of Vale; brother, Ernest Wayne Gantt of Vale; three grandchildren, Justin Gantt, Phillip Gantt, and Katie Hayes; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 112 Mt. Zion Church Road, Cherryville, NC 28021.
