Casey Matthew Kelly

November 14, 1951 – March 20, 2024


NEWTON, N.C. - Casey Matthew Kelly of Newton, a cherished Vietnam veteran, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the age of 72 at his residence.

Known for his unwavering love for his family and his profound dedication to his country, Casey leaves behind a legacy of courage, humor, and boundless affection.

Born November 14, 1951 in Buncombe County, Casey grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, particularly his love for the beach. His time spent by the ocean brought him solace and happiness, where he found peace amidst the crashing waves and endless expanse of sand. In his youth,

Casey bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, demonstrating unparalleled bravery and commitment in the Marines. His service was marked by acts of valor and sacrifice, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Retiring from military service, Casey continued to embody the values of loyalty, integrity, and humor.

His wicked sense of humor could light up any room, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. But above all, his love for his family knew no bounds. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, whose love enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Randolph Kelly Sr., Gladys Lexie Watson Kelly; wife, Catherine Kelly; brother, William Randolph Kelly, Jr.; sisters, Marcheta Wheeler, Cherry Belle Kelly, and Patty Maureen Batt; and significant other, Diane Keeslar Maynard-Boliek.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Carvin Franklin Hefner Jr. of Rhodhiss, Kenneth Dewayne Kelly and wife Debbie of Rhodhiss; daughters Dorothy Jeanette Barnes and significant other Dustin Stephens of Rhodhiss, Nickcole Kristine Maynard-Errami and husband Moe of Virginia, Apryl-Jordan (AJ) Hollar and husband Noah of Newton; sisters Francine Kelly Clarke and husband Jim of Cornelius, Lisa Kelly Gragg and significant other Ed Mauney of Hickory; grandchildren Casey Hefner, Chelsey Hefner, Michael Thomas, Sara Harris  FaTima-Grace Errami, Zack Crawford, Amira Errami, Linda Sue Crawford, Ryder Errami, Keeslar Errami, and Jedidiah Hollar; great-grandchild Baylee Hefner; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends who will deeply miss his presence.

Though he may no longer walk among us, the memory of Casey's infectious laughter, unwavering love, and indomitable spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his remarkable life.

A celebration of Casey’s life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his extraordinary life. Mark Donnell will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-10:45 a.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.

Rest in peace, dear Casey. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
