United Methodists Approve LGBTQ Changes
Denominaion adopts new definition of marriage, approves LGBTQ ordination
United Methodist delegates on Thursday (May 2nd) removed a 52-year-old declaration from their official social teachings that deemed “the practice of homosexuality ... incompatible with Christian teaching.” Other revisions in doctrine included the ordination of LGBTQ ministers and changed the definiation of marriage to "a covenant between two people of faith.”
The meeting, the first of its kind in almost eight years, approved the ordination of LGBTQ clergy and took action to end a process called 'disaffiliation' that had seen over 7,500 congregations leave the denomination.
