NEWTON, N.C. - Shirley McAlister Cline, age 88, of Highway 16 South in Newton, died Sunday, April 28, 2024 peacefully at Carolina Caring in Catawba County.

Her funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Joey Williams officiating.  Burial followed in Iron Station Cemetery.  The family received friends for one hour prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cline was born November 16, 1935 to the late Clarence and Margie McConnell McAlister.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Cline; one brother, Carroll McAlister; one sister, Pat Fox; one grandson, Jason Lee Huffman.  She was a hairdresser for many years and then went on to work at McCreary Furniture until she retired at 72 years old.

Left to survive her are one son, James Phillips of Conover; one daughter, Rebecca Beam and husband John of Iron Station; one brother, Leonard McAlister and wife Lori; one sister, Darlene Mayhew; two grandchildren, Chad Huffman of Newton and Billie Jean Briggs and husband Matthew of Mt. Holly; several nieces and nephews.
