Peggy Ann Wyont Abernathy

December 3, 1942 – April 29, 2024


BESSEMER CITY, N.C. - Peggy Ann Wyont Abernathy, age 81, of Long Shoals Road, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Ivy at Gastonia.

She was born December 3, 1942 in Gaston County to the late Webb Thomas and Callie Mae Davis Wyont.

Peggy was a longtime member of Puett United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and years ago, she bowled with the Dixie Yarn Bowling Team at Major League Lanes. She was a great cook, and her family specifically enjoyed her potato salad and meatloaf. Peggy adored family trips to Myrtle Beach. She loved going to Gospel singings, especially the Songsters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold “Jim” Abernathy.

Survivors include her sons, Danny James Abernathy (Candace), of Bessemer City, and Jeffery Scott Abernathy, of Clover; brothers, Gary Wyont (Wanda), and Steve Wyont (Teresa); grandchildren, Jamey Abernathy, Darrin Scott Abernathy, Devin Poindexter (Melissa), and Josh Poindexter; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Abernathy, Brooklyn Thompson, Madysun Poindexter, and Jayden Abernathy.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Puett United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Underwood and Rev. Tim Luther officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Her family received friends from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.
