Jay Freeman Shearin went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2024.

He was born March 24, 1947 to the late Freeman Shearin and to Virginia Propst Shearin.

He married Pat Robinson in 1966 and they were blessed with a daughter, Angie L. Shearin and a son, Clint P. Shearin.

Jay is survived by his wife Pat of 58 years and his daughter Angie and son, Clint. Also surviving are his mother, Virginia; his sister, Gayle Greene of Asheboro; sister, Debbie Reidenbach (Philip) of Statesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

After retiring, Jay worked in the Catawba County School System as a head custodian and brought sunshine into the students’ lives. He enjoyed helping others, deer hunting and watching wildlife from his back deck.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Alaska Teen Camp, 2126 St. Johns Church Rd. NE, Conover, NC 28613 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

A service to celebrate Jay’s life will be held on Wednesday May 8, 2024 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Conover. Rev. Anton Lagoutine and Rev. Luke Self will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in the Parrish Hall of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  The St. John’s Men’s Bible Study will serve as honorary pallbearers.
