LINCOLNTON––To paraphrase St. Paul, giving is the greatest act of grace.

And it is perhaps with these words in mind that Mitzi Williams, the executive director of Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, this week thanked a major player keeping the organization’s soup kitchen running.

“Here’s a shout-out,” said Williams, “to Burton Farms in downtown Lincolnton, for all your donations made to our soup kitchen. If we need any vegetables, and we go in anticipation of purchasing them, they donate them free of charge. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you!”

Recognizing the importance of “going local” has been all the rage for some years now. A family-owned business, Burton Farms is known for doing just that, and it proudly supports local farmers and entrepreneurs. It provides fresh, local produce, as well as jams, jellies, honey, meats, cheese and artisan/craft items.

Talking of the soup kitchen, its wish list includes corn, sweet peas, mixed vegetables and mayonnaise. Williams added that the pantry needs crackers, peanut butter, breakfast foods, detergent, bar soap and toilet paper.
