You've heard the expression "pretty as a peach;" but in this case, the more appropriate comparison is "adorable as an apple." The Lincolnton Business & Professional Women's Club has presented the annual Apple Queen pageant for many years, but last year, they began a new tradition: the Granny Smith Apple Queen Pageant, honoring slightly more senior ladies than the annual Fall event for high school and college student age contestants.
Saturday night (April 27th) at the James Warren Citizens Center, this year's Granny Smith pageant was held and Donna Whitted was the winner, succeeding Janice Peeler as Queen.
The Granny Smith pageant was just one of the events that happened downtown on Saturday. The Lincoln Theatre Guild presented its production of "Anne Frank and Me" at the Cultural Center.
The downtown events continue this week as the annual Food, Wine & Brew Fest happens Saturday from 11 AM-4 PM.
Congratulations to Donna, whose chosen charity, the Alzheimer's Association, will receive the $500 first prize donation.
